THE OVERSTREET GUIDE TO COLLECTING COMIC & ANIMATION ART

Our current project at Gemstone Publishing is The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comic & Animation Art. It's the second book in our "How To" series, and so far it's very interesting! It features a great cover by Joe Jusko (recreating John Buscema's Silver Surfer #1 cover), and it's due out in October 2013.

FUN on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

Vincent Spencer, with whom I created Zombie-Proof, and I had a blast on Free Comic Book Day, Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Best Comics and The Comic Book Depot, two great comic shops, both on Long Island. There were great crowds at both stores and we were able to give out copies of the special FCBD 2013 issue of Comic Book Marketplace, talk about The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics and the upcoming July release of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #43, and more.

We also talked about and sold copies of Zombie-Proof, Vampire, PA, the Mighty Samson trade paperback, and other creative projects, too... And many fans received sketches of themselves "zombie-fied" courtesy of Vince on our blank sketch cover variant of Comic Book Marketplace. They were awesome and very well received.

MIKE DEODATO on OVERSTREET #43

When we started trying to work out the covers on The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #43, I had a very firm plan in my head for the covers. As you might have experienced in your own life, though, life is what happens while your busy making other plans. I was fortunate enough have help from a friend at Marvel in landing Mike Deodato, Jr. as one of our cover artists. What an awesome experience working with him turned out to be. I gave him almost no time to get it done and he delivered it brilliantly and sooner than I had asked. And his recommendation for coloring it, Leonardo Ito, also performed admirably in equally expedient fashion! What a great experience and what a superb cover! Their take on the X-Men was exactly what I asked for in our of the Marvel mutants' 50th anniversary!

ALMOST GONE! The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics Selling Quickly

The Joe Jusko Spider-Man cover edition of The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics #1 is almost sold out from Diamond Comic Distributors and we have about a case left at the Gemstone offices. We expect to go back to press on this in the fall. In the meantime, if you haven't discovered this perennial and you know someone new to comics, I urge you to check it out soon! The Don Newton cover edition sold out a few weeks back. The reactions to it have been superb, making it a very gratifying experience Bob Overstreet, Mark Huesman and me. Thanks!

RETURN OF THE HUMAN - BOOK 2 CONCLUDES

The concluding chapter of RETURN OF THE HUMAN - Book 2 is now available in David Lloyd's ACES WEEKLY - Volume 3. In addition to my friend and collaborator Mark Wheatley, who delivered some truly brilliant stuff under adverse (to say the least) conditions, I'd like to thank David and Bam for a wonderful experience thus far, my first in the world of digital comics! Can't wait to get back to it for Book 3!

ANDY KUBERT, SUPERMAN on OVERSTREET #43

As a huge fan of Joe Kubert's Tarzan cover on THE OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE #5, I am really excited to have a piece celebrating Superman's 75th anniversary by ANDY KUBERT, one of Joe's sons, as the the cover for THE OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE #43.

Incidentally, that Tarzan cover was just voted BEST OVERSTREET COVER OF THE 1970s!

ZOMBIE GRAS 3 at GEPPI'S ENTERTAINMENT MUSEUM

On March 30, 2013, while supplies last, a free ZG3 (that's Zombie Gras 3 for you newcomers) edition of COMIC BOOK MARKETPLACE will be given away to attendees at Geppi's Entertainment Museum (GEM). As many already know, Zombie Gras has turned into a huge event for GEM. And just to avoid any confusion, it's a variant cover of last year's all-horror issue of CBM, which sort of seemed perfect for the occasion.

I am happy to report that the Don Newton cover edition of THE OVERSTREET GUIDE TO COLLECTING COMICS #1 has sold out from Diamond Comic Distributors. We have a few single copies left at Gemstone Publishing and a few retailers will have copies, too. This edition won't be reprinted, but the Spider-Man cover by Joe Jusko is still available.
